As cold weather bites across the country special measures to temporarily shelter rough sleepers have been activated by local councils and voluntary sector partners.
Severe Weather Emergency Provision (SWEP) is activated when night time temperatures are forecast to dip below freezing for three consecutive nights.
SWEP will mean that all rough sleepers should be given the opportunity to get out of the cold and given a place to sleep for the duration of the sub-zero temperatures.
Leslie Morphy, Chief Executive of Crisis, said: "The stark reality is that rough sleepers can and do die during extremely cold nights so special cold weather provision is an absolute necessity. I hope that councils across the country are fulfilling their obligation to bring everyone out of the deadly cold.
"It is of course a scandal that anyone is left to sleep on the streets in 21st century Britain. We are calling on everyone to sign up to our campaign, No One Turned Away, calling for a safety net to catch everyone at risk of rough sleeping."
In London, the charity St Mungo's is working with local councils to ensure all rough sleepers are brought in out of the cold.
