That’s the view of EasyHouseExchange.com – a house swapping website that is urging people to ignore the backlash over the Government ruling and concentrate on the business of moving instead.
"There’s no point throwing toys out of the pram over the inevitable," said Richard O’Driscoll, founder of EasyHouseExchange.com.
"HIPS are here and the sooner we all accept them and move on, the sooner the market will get moving."
As falling property values combine with rising moving costs – not to mention painful bureaucracy – an increasing number of homeowners are taking matters into their own hands.
The firm said that proactive homeowners could kick-start the market themselves by turning to websites such as their own which puts them in direct contact with like-minded people to literally swap homes – without an estate agent in sight.
"What we offer is an online space for independently-minded, intelligent homeowners to take matters into their own hands," said O’Driscoll.
"If someone wants to swap homes permanently, or simply on a temporary basis, we give them the platform to negotiate a deal."
"In the face of failing property markets and failing estate agents, the only thing to do is take control and do it yourself."
