Leaseholders face problems ahead with new Equality Act!

Federation Chairman Bob Smytherman said:

"Many private residents’ associations and management companies are formed to run their residential blocks and are often run by Directors who are volunteers from the tenants or leaseholders who give of their time freely and it is this type of organisation that will be affected by these new duties under the legislation in their role as "landlord and manager".

"We are therefore (today) calling on the Equality Ministers to work with us to minimise the burdens and complexities of the Equality Act and provide clear and unambiguous advice to supplement this legislation before it comes in to force next
April to ensure that the law that is meant to prevent discrimination does not discriminate against the very people they are trying to protect."
