RBS to make £1.7bn available for mortgages in Scotland

Troubled Royal Bank of Scotland has announced that it will make £1.7billion-worth of mortgages available to Scottish homebuyers this year.

The RBS Group, now effectively nationalised by the UK Government, said it would be making available the lending package following a raft of Government support measures.

The deal is said to include £500million released through the Treasury’s Asset Protection Scheme – aimed at bringing financial stability to Britain’s banks during the global downturn.
