This investment supports Labour’s £1.5bn Housing Pledge to build 20,000 affordable, energy efficient new homes over this year and the next – and a further 100,000 homes delivered through the private sector.
Labour’s Housing Minister, John Healey, said:
“This £30m boost for councils places them at the centre stage of supporting the homes, jobs and growth that the Government has set out in Building Britain’s Future. It’s good news for the local area.”
Labour’s Transport Minister, Sadiq Khan, said:
“Good transport links are vital to the success of new housing developments, but it is much more than simply getting people from A to B. We need to provide a range of options including cycling, walking and public transport, if communities are to grow and thrive.
“A significant proportion of this funding will go towards sustainable transport schemes that not only offer a genuine choice but also make low carbon travel a viable and attractive option.”
