OFT bans East London estate agents

Ms Gul was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and Mr Ali to seven years nine months detention, following a trial at Southwark Crown Court on 23 June 2008.

Mike Haley, OFT Director of Consumer Protection, said: "We will not allow estate agents who commit serious offences of violence and dishonesty to continue trading.

"It is crucial that people have confidence when they use estate agency services and we will act robustly to protect the interests and safety of consumers."

Not sure why the OFT went to these lengths. Surely, being banged up prohibits trading?

  2. We are supposed to be professionals! Professionals do not behave like these characters. Further more, people do not expect to meet criminals when viewing a house, anything could happen. I support the Office of Fair Trading.
