Estate agents across the UK dusted off their bikes and took to the roads to cycle a total of 3,000 miles, raising in excess of £26,000 for charity.
The event, The Great British Property Cycle, was organised by the Estate Agency Foundation. Over 150 agents from branches as far north as Inverness and as far South as Ilfracombe participated in the event in September.
The cycle rides are the most popular in the fundraising calendar. Following the success of the event last year, a new band of agents got involved and participated in a wide range of events from 100 mile cross country marathons to the safer option of static rides, cycling to work for a week and even taking scenic tours of the countryside.
Money raised goes to the Estate Agency Foundation’s supported charities including Centre Point, Thames Reach and Hope4 which all share the Foundation’s charitable aim of combatting the causes of homelessness.
Bill McClintock, Chairman at the Estate Agency Foundation, commented:
“It was uplifting to see estate agents out in force raising money for a major issue faced by all communities in the UK – homelessness. Participation came in many guises this year and from both the bigger players and independent agents. As branches were able to organise their own bespoke events all abilities were able to take part. Possession of a wardrobe full of lycra was certainly not a prerequisite and people were able to raise money while having fun with colleagues, friends and family.
“The 3,000 miles cycled and £26,000 raised is a fantastic accolade to all those who took part. We hope to get even more people involved next year and establish the event as the key fundraiser in our calendar. These results are the perfect foundation on which to start instigating key changes to the Estate Agency Foundation which will come to fruition next year – watch this space.”
The next major Estate Agency Foundation event is The Great British Property Christmas Cake Bake which entails baking festive treats to be sold in the office to both staff and clients during a number of coffee mornings throughout December.
