New Nationwide sustainable housing awards theme announced

Wayne Hemingway MBE of Hemingway Design will announce the winners of each category at an awards ceremony in June 2010.*

As a leading provider of funds for social housing and the UK’s third largest mortgage provider, Nationwide wishes to promote social, economic and environmental sustainability in housing. By supporting the Sustainable Housing Awards, Nationwide is hoping to encourage others to think in a sustainable way.

Graham Beale, Nationwide’s chief executive, said: "We are delighted to once again be working in partnership with RIBA to launch the second annual Nationwide Sustainable Housing Awards. Last year’s awards proved to be a big success and we received a number of interesting and innovative entries to choose from.

"The new ‘Suburban Urban’ theme will hopefully inspire students to think about housing in a sustainable way and give architects and designers of the future the opportunity to showcase their creative talents."

The closing date for entries is 27 January 2010 (phase 1) and 21 April 2010 (phase 2). More information about the competition and how to enter can be found at www.architecture.com/competitions.
