Second wave Portas Pilots offered landlord support

The scheme links professional mentors from the BCSC and BPF membership to Portas Pilot Towns.

Portas Pilots are a key recommendation in retail guru Mary Portas’ Government backed review of the high street, and will see each the towns share a pot of £1.5m to improve their shopping districts.

Separately the BPF is working with a number of Portas Pilots looking at measures for dealing with empty premises and absent landlords.

Liz Peace, chief executive of the British Property Federation, said: “Landlords clearly have a significant interest in helping find a solution to the nation’s ailing high streets and want to play their part in creating vibrant town centers.

“Many landlords have signed up to the mentoring scheme and stand ready to support the pilots free of charge. They’re experts in the fields of property management and place making and have a wealth of professional experience that the Pilots can access.

“We want to give this positive initiative the best possible chance of success and breathe life into struggling high streets.”
